Más de un centenar de migrantes venezolanos buscan refugio en una aldea en Guyana

Más de un centenar de migrantes venezolanos, entre ellos niños, han llegado en busca de refugio a la aldea indígena guyanesa de Kabakaburi, en la región Dos del país, según informó este miércoles un líder local.

El toshao (dirigente de la aldea) y portavoz de la zona Monty Simon explicó a los medios locales que los migrantes necesitaban desesperadamente alimentos, ropa y atención médica, reseñó EFE.

Según contó Simon, la semana pasada llegó al pueblo un grupo de 25 personas y en los últimos días varias decenas más, que se suman a otros que ya estaban en la zona desde noviembre pasado.

Los migrantes, de la tribu warao, han sido reubicados en un campamento en la Región Uno y han recibido atención médica.

“Lo primero que queríamos saber es si llegaban con alguna enfermedad, así que rápidamente enviamos a nuestro equipo de salud para asegurarnos de que no traían ninguna enfermedad a nuestra área”, dijo a la radio guyanesa la presidenta regional, Vilma De Silva.

El pasado noviembre, entre los 200 venezolanos que llegaron a la localidad de Anabisi, cercana a Puerto Kaituma, había una veintena de niños malnutridos y varios casos de malaria.

Ese mes, la Agencia de las Naciones Unidas para los Refugiados (ACNUR) expresó su preocupación por las condiciones en las que se encuentran los migrantes y refugiados venezolanos en la vecina Guyana, particularmente los 2.500 miembros de la comunidad indígena warao.

Guayana acoge unos 24.500 migrantes y refugiados procedentes de Venezuela, tan sólo una pequeña parte de los más de seis millones que han dejado el país a causa de la crisis económica y política que atraviesa en los últimos años.
