El gobierno de Jamaica confirmó este domingo que el exmilitar colombiano Mario Antonio Palacios, supuestamente implicado en el asesinato del presidente de Haití Jovenel Moise, será deportado a su país natal este lunes 3 de enero.
Palacios fue arrestado en Jamaica en octubre pasado y condenado por ingresar ilegalmente al país desde República Dominicana, un cargo por el que se emitió una orden de deportación.
Como a día de hoy el gobierno de Haití no ha facilitado información suficiente sobre la vinculación de Palacios con el citado magnicidio perpetrado el 7 de julio del año pasado en Puerto Príncipe por un comando, el exmilitar será enviado a Colombia, según el comunicado oficial.
«La información proporcionada no lo vinculaba con el asesinato y esencialmente indicaba que era sospechoso de un intento de robo a mano armada, sin ningún detalle», indicó el gobierno de Jamaica.
En esta línea, la nota agregó que todos los intentos por «obtener más y mejores datos del gobierno haitiano no han tenido éxito» y que, además, no existe un tratado formal de extradición entre Jamaica y Haití.
Por su parte, los abogados de Palacios han pedido su liberación inmediata del centro de detención de adultos Horizon de Kingston, argumentando que su arresto es ilegal.
A este tema se refirió ya ayer el ex primer ministro de Haití Claude Joseph, quien afirmó que el exmilitar colombiano sería deportado a su país el lunes debido a que el gobierno haitiano no ha proporcionado «pruebas suficientes» para establecer la participación del mercenario en el asesinato de Moise.
«Es un duro golpe para la investigación (…) No hay voluntad política para avanzar en la investigación del asesinato», denunció Joseph, quien dirigió temporalmente el país tras el magnicidio.
