El acuerdo tentativo, que todavía debe ser ratificado por el Senado argentino y por el Directorio Ejecutivo del Fondo, se opone un sector del kirchnerismo liderado por la vicepresidenta de Argentina, Cristina Fernández.
«Nuestra posición es que para que el programa económico tenga éxito, un apoyo amplio político y social resultará clave», detalla en una rueda de prensa al ser preguntado sobre la cuestión el portavoz del FMI, Gerry Rice.
Rice tildó el principio de acuerdo alcanzado con Argentina de «pragmático y realista», con políticas económicas «creíbles» que fortalecerán la estabilidad macroeconómica del país y «empezarán a dar respuesta a los grandes retos» que el país tiene para llegar al crecimiento sostenible.
El portavoz indicó que, por el momento, no dispone de información sobre cuándo se producirá la próxima misión de Fondo a Argentina.
El pasado 3 de marzo, el Gobierno argentino y el staff del FMI anunciaron un acuerdo para un nuevo programa que prevé desembolsos totales por unos 45 mil millones de dólares para que Argentina pueda afrontar los pesados vencimientos con el propio organismo entre este año y 2024 derivados del acuerdo stand by firmado en 2018, durante el Gobierno de Mauricio Macri (2015-2019).
Entre uno de sus principales objetivos, el nuevo programa busca atacar la persistente alta inflación de Argentina (50,9 % en 2021) a través de una estrategia múltiple que implica una reducción de la financiación monetaria del déficit fiscal y un nuevo marco de política monetaria, con tipos de interés reales positivos para apoyar la financiación al Tesoro a través del mercado doméstico.
Establece, además, una reducción gradual del déficit fiscal primario, desde el equivalente al tres por ciento del producto interno bruto (PIB) en 2021, al 2,5 por ciento este año, el 1,9 por ciento en 2023 y el 0,9 por ciento en 2024.
