EEUU ofrece 15 millones de dólares por el líder del cartel de Sinaloa

El Gobierno de EEUU anunció este miércoles que triplica la recompensa que ofrece para localizar a Ismael “el Mayo” Zambada, actual líder del cartel de Sinaloa, y la eleva así a 15 millones de dólares, informó el Departamento de Estado en un comunicado.

Se trata de la segunda mayor recompensa ofrecida hasta ahora por la Administración estadounidense para encontrar a un narcotraficante mexicano, tras la de 20 millones de dólares que se repartirían si se captura a Rafael Caro Quintero, el más buscado por la Justicia de EEUU, reseñó EFE.

La recompensa por la captura de el Mayo es además del mismo monto a la que ofrece el Gobierno estadounidense por la captura del presidente venezolano, Nicolás Maduro.

El Cartel de Sinaloa fue fundado en 1988 por Joaquín “el Chapo” Guzmán, actualmente preso en Estados Unidos, Héctor “el Guero” Palma, también preso, e Ismael “el Mayo” Zambada, de quien se dice comanda la organización actualmente.

El Departamento de Estado, a través de su programa de recompensas para la lucha contra el narcotráfico, ofrece la citada cantidad a cambio de información que lleve al arresto de Zambada.

En el comunicado, recuerda que Zambada ha sido socio durante mucho tiempo de el Chapo y se le imputan, al igual que a su antecesor, numerosos delitos.

El aumento de la recompensa se debe al nuevo estatus de liderazgo en la organización que ha adquirido el Mayo, según señala la nota.

La recompensa complementa a las medidas anunciadas por el Departamento del Tesoro, que ha aprobado sanciones para otro miembro del cartel, Sergio Valenzuela Valenzuela, acusado de dar asistencia financiera y tecnológica al citado cartel y a Zambada.

Más de 75 criminales y narcotraficantes de otros países han sido llevados a la justicia estadounidense gracias al sistema de recompensas, que ha pagado 135 millones de dólares en compensaciones desde que se puso en marcha en 1986.
